Vancouver!

VANCOUVER HERE I AM,

We made it! What a long day, we left Ottawa at 7 and landed in Vancouver at 13:00. Since I'm not a frequent flyer my stress level took and my fatigue were a challenge today with all the take-offs and landings.

But holy I'm happy. Vancouver is a very nice place, unfortunately the weather is mild. It feels like Ottawa in the month of April, except for all the melting snow. There's just no snow anywhere. It was really weird landing in Vancouver to attend and volunteer for the Winter Olympics with no snow on the ground. Did we land in the right city???

Anecdote time: Once arrived in Vancouver, we decided to take the monorail. From the 20 minute monorail ride we had to transfer onto a bus route (99). When we got on with all of our luggages, people looked at us funny. This random lady asked if we needed a ride somewhere. We gladly accepted. She was very nice, she showed us around Jayco beach and Spanish something, before bringing us to Jay's TOTEM rez on UBC campus...

Up to now everything is awesome, but we still don't feel the Olympic vibe, perhaps the missing snow is throwing me off...

Cheers,

________

  1. Welcome to our great city! I can see both of you trying to figure out the transit systems with all your lugguage!!! You are right, it's not an easy system to figure out but then again Ottawa is not surrounded by bodies of water and to get anywhere here requires travelling over these water. Jericho Beach and the Spanish Banks are some of Van. best beaches and stunning views of the city. When the tide is out, you can walk out for miles and miles on the sand banks. Ask my little dog Jessie and she will tell you that is her favorite place on earth. Van is very dog friendly as you will see.
Incidently, I don't know if the driver told you but the parking lot at these beaches are now being rented out during the Olympics for RV parking. Not a bad place to camp out for the Olympics.

Some 40,000 people went throught the Vancouver airport yesterday. It was one of busiest days for the Olympic. I hope you got to see some of the athletes from around the world arrive.

Enjoy your first full day in the city. The sun will be out in all it's glory and it will throw you off to see all the flowers blooming! If you think it's funny not to see snow, just wait till you see the trees blooming and some in flowers!!!
